The Derwent Centre, Heating and Hot Water Plant

Project overview

Preou was appointed as main contractor for the replacement and upgrade of heating and hot water plant serving The Derwent Centre, a live mental health hospital environment. Due to the nature of the facility, careful planning, communication and strict site controls were essential throughout the project.

Scope of works

The works included the supply and installation of three new Ideal boilers, two new water heaters and a complete new BMS to provide improved control and monitoring of the building's heating and hot water services.

Project delivery

Working within an operational mental health facility required close coordination with the hospital team. All planned heating and hot water shutdowns were carefully programmed and agreed in advance to minimise disruption to patients, staff and essential services.

Maintaining the programme was critical, with works coordinated to ensure services were reinstated within agreed timescales. Site welfare, access, storage and housekeeping were also tightly controlled due to the increased risks associated with the patient environment.

Outcome

Preou delivered the project as main contractor, providing modern, reliable heating and hot water plant alongside an upgraded BMS, while maintaining a safe and controlled working environment throughout.
