Charing Cross Hospital, 3T MRI Suite

Overview

Preou completed the full mechanical installation for a new 3T MRI suite at Charing Cross Hospital. All works were delivered in a live hospital environment, carefully phased to avoid disruption and completed with zero incidents.

Scope of works

The project involved decommissioning the existing MRI infrastructure and installing a new, high-performance suite. Preou managed both enabling and mechanical works, including new air handling units with extract fans, energy recovery, heating and cooling coils, humidifiers and attenuators. We also installed ductwork, insulation and an emergency extract system for the MRI room.

Mechanical systems included air source heat pumps supplying LTHW and chilled water, a process cooling system with chillers, a cold water storage tank, booster set and emergency cooling for the MRI liquid cooling cabinet. A new quench pipe system was installed for safe helium discharge. We also delivered new hot and cold water services and drainage, and completed full flushing, testing and BMS integration.

Delivery and outcome

The project was delivered in two phases, covering the MRI examination room and then the equipment and control rooms, to ensure continuous hospital operation. The result was a fully commissioned, turnkey solution meeting the complex demands of a modern clinical environment.
