Hadley Wood Primary School, Heating Upgrade
Full strip-out and replacement of the main plant room, with three 120kW boilers, a new flue system, an upsized gas main and Trend BMS.

Scope of works
This project involved the full strip-out and replacement of the existing heating plant within the school's main plant room, including the removal of pumps and all other associated plant, the existing heating pipework and the BMS. A complete new heating plant installation was then delivered, including three Vaillant 120kW boilers, a plate heat exchanger, new pumps, two pressurisation units, two dosing pots, an air and dirt separator and two expansion vessels.
Flue, pipework and gas
The existing flue system was removed and replaced with a new flue installation to ensure full compliance with current regulations and to suit the new plant arrangement. New heating pipework was installed throughout the plant room and extended to connect into a small secondary plant room in another building within the school.
The incoming gas pipework was altered to accommodate the new boiler locations, with the main supply increased from 2 inch to 4 inch. All new gas pipework was bonded to earth.
Controls and completion
A new BMS was installed using Trend IQ5, with electrical connections between the plant and the BMS to enable live monitoring and heating history reporting. Builders work associated with the removal of the existing flue was completed, and the plant room floor and gas pipework were painted as part of the finishing works. Record drawings were provided at handover.
The project was completed within programme and budget, with further works planned to follow, including radiator replacements throughout the school.
