Minster in Sheppey, Heating Installation

Overview

We undertook a comprehensive heating system upgrade at Minster in Sheppey, involving the full removal of the outdated one-pipe heating system and radiators across both the Upper and Lower Schools. The project was delivered within an eight-week programme and achieved the critical target of providing treated heat in time for the start of winter.

Scope of works

A total of 95 new radiators and complete new pipework were installed throughout both school buildings. In the Upper School, the new heating system was integrated with the existing three boilers. The plant room was significantly upgraded with new pipework, a pressurisation unit, a plate heat exchanger, new primary and secondary pumps, and modified Trend controls to accommodate the new installation.

In the Lower School, the boiler room was completely stripped and refitted with two new high-efficiency boilers, a dosing pot, and new pumps and pipework. Both heating systems were fully flushed, chemically treated and commissioned.

Outcome

All exposed pipework was boxed in as part of the builders work to enhance safety and prevent pupils from coming into contact with hot surfaces. The project was delivered on time, with heating fully operational by the scheduled date.

In addition to the main contract, we carried out responsive repairs to other school boilers, including the replacement of heat exchangers and ancillary components, working directly with school management to minimise disruption.
