Laurel Park School, Heating and Radiator Replacement
A full heating and mechanical services upgrade in a live school: plant room renewal, phased radiator replacement and BMS upgrade over ten weeks.

Overview
Preou Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning Ltd was appointed to deliver a full heating and mechanical services upgrade within a live educational facility. The works focused on removing redundant plant and distribution pipework, upgrading radiator systems across multiple heating circuits, and improving overall efficiency, control and long-term reliability.
Programme
The project was delivered across a structured ten-week programme, beginning with mobilisation, RAMS approval and permit-to-work procedures. Early works included the safe isolation and strip-out of the Tower plant room mechanical and electrical systems, removal of redundant radiators and pipework serving classrooms, and surveying of new service routes. Asbestos risks were identified and managed in accordance with statutory requirements.
Scope of works
Following strip-out, the main plant room was upgraded with new equipment including a degasser, air separator, water softener, side stream filtration and dosing units, alongside new electrical supplies and isolators. BMS upgrades ensured the new plant and systems were fully integrated and optimised.
Radiator replacement works were then completed in phases across the Tower-connected areas, System 2, the Sports Hall and finally System 1. This included new radiators, valves, balancing devices, pipework modifications and associated ceiling and boxing works, ensuring access for future maintenance. External pipework was protected with new trace heating and insulation.
Handover
Once installation was complete, the systems were flushed, cleaned and chemically dosed, followed by pressure testing, commissioning, balancing, water quality testing and full BMS commissioning. The project concluded with a full handover including O&M manuals, as-fitted drawings, commissioning results, logbook updates, staff training and final client sign-off.
