Charing Cross Hospital, 1.5T MRI Suite Refurbishment
Mechanical services for the refurbishment of the North Wing Radiology 1.5T MRI suite for Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.

Overview
We completed the mechanical services installation associated with the refurbishment of the North Wing Radiology Department 1.5T MRI suite at Charing Cross Hospital for Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. The project involved a complete refurbishment of the MRI treatment room, technical equipment room and associated ancillary areas within a live hospital environment, where maintaining continuity of existing services was critical.
Scope of works
Our scope included the removal of redundant mechanical plant, ductwork, pipework, controls, supports and associated equipment, followed by the installation of the new mechanical services infrastructure.
The completed works incorporated new supply and return air handling units, ventilation distribution ductwork, silencers, dampers and thermal insulation, together with LTHW heating and chilled water systems serving the AHU coils.
Additional works included domestic mains cold water services, trace heating, MRI examination room ventilation, wave guides, emergency helium evacuation, medical gas adaptations and specialist cooling installations serving the MRI technical room.
Outcome
The installation also incorporated MCC and BMS controls, associated power and control wiring, sensors and containment. All mechanical systems were tested, commissioned and integrated to provide a complete operational installation supporting the refurbished MRI facility.
